Prior to the state election the SA Labor promised $750,000 for the construction of female changes rooms at both Duncan Fraser Reserve and Blair Athol Reserve.
The upgrade to Duncan Fraser Reserve will be a much-needed boost for the Gepps Cross Football Club and Gepps Cross Cricket Club. These two clubs have seen a huge jump in participation from women looking to be involved in football and cricket in recent years. This growth has brought success with the Gepps Cross Rams women’s team winning the Women’s Division 5 Premiership in 2021.
The upgrade to Blair Athol Reserve will benefit the Kilburn Football Club, Kilburn Cricket Club, and the Ghan Kilburn City Soccer Club. The Ghan Kilburn City Soccer Club started out in 2013 with just 22 players, it now boasts over 150 members including senior, youth and women’s teams.
I am pleased that the funding has been allocated in the 22/23 State Budget to build female change rooms at both reserves will encourage more girls and women to get involved in their local sporting clubs.
The funds will be allocated to the local Council who will undertake appropriate works. I am keen to work closely with the City of Port Adelaide Enfield to ensure these projects are delivered to our community.
